JESUS: The Great I Am

WRATH

WRATH Revelation 5:12-17

Revelation 5:12-17
When he opened the sixth seal, I looked, and behold, there was a great earthquake, and the sun became black as sackcloth, the full moon became like blood, and the stars of the sky fell to the earth as the fig tree sheds its winter fruit when shaken by a gale. The sky vanished like a scroll that is being rolled up, and every mountain and island was removed from its place. Then the kings of the earth and the great ones and the generals and the rich and the powerful, and everyone, slave[e] and free, hid themselves in the caves and among the rocks of the mountains, calling to the mountains and rocks, “Fall on us and hide us from the face of him who is seated on the throne, and from the wrath of the Lamb, for the great day of their wrath has come, and who can stand?”

Wrath?
We don’t often talk about Jesus and wrath together. However, the Bible is clear, a day is coming when Jesus will exercise wrath on the world. His wrath will be a righteous wrath. Jesus came and died so that men, women and children could be free from the price of sin, from external punishment in hell. The punishment for sin is clear and the only way to avoid it is to put our faith in Jesus Christ, the one who is God int he flesh, lived a perfect life, suffered and died for us, rose again and is coming for us one day. When he does come for us he will cleanse the earth from wickedness in righteous wrath.

2 Corinthians 6:1-2
Working together with him, then, we appeal to you not to receive the grace of God in vain. For he says, “In a favorable time I listened to you, and in a day of salvation I have helped you.” Behold, now is the favorable time; behold, now is the day of salvation.
